London 2012 Olympics In Hadleigh

Hadleigh Mountain Biking Venue

It seems only a few months ago that Hadleigh Farm was selected as the Mountain Biking Venue for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games, yet in just a few days’ time Hadleigh Farm will be filled with roars of applause from thousands of spectators. Due to take place this weekend – 11th and 12th August – Lord Sebastian Coe has said it ‘will be one of the most exciting events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.’

The Hadleigh Farm venue is highly impressive and will hold up to 20,000 visitors. Each spectator will gain a superb viewing opportunity as large sections of the course will be visible from many positions throughout the site. Located on a stunning backdrop next to the historic Hadleigh Castle and Thames Estuary, ticket holders are sure to be impressed.

The open hillside course has been designed to provide both a physical and psychological challenge, set to test the world’s elite riders. The course includes slow steep climbs, technically challenging declines and timber framed constructions.

Multiple routes have been created with varying levels of exertion to test the rider’s abilities. Liam Killeen, from British Cycling GB said: ‘It’s a challenging course that will bring out the best in everyone and should make for a fantastic race for both the riders and spectators.’

The 5km circuit promises to be one of unrelenting effort. Construction of the course began back in July 2010 and on 23rd March 2011 Lord Coe and GB riders launched the completion of the course. This was followed by a test event, which took place on July 31st 2011.

Hadleigh Farm is the ideal base for the Olympic Mountain Biking Events course. Located on land owned by The Salvation Army, this beautifully rural setting is only 25 miles from the Olympic Park.
