
It has been announced that Hadleigh Farm is the chosen venue for the 2012 Olympic Mountain Biking Event. Since the news has been revealed, there has been a buzz of excitement surrounding Hadleigh town. The venue, which consists of 550 acres of land, is more than suitable for this especially exciting prospect.
The Events are scheduled to take place on 11th & 12th August 2012 for both the male and female competitors. Up to 50 men are 30 women are set to take part in this fantastic event which promises to have superb viewing opportunities for spectators, photographers and filming.
The course will provide not only a physical, but a mental challenge for the world’s top mountain bike riders due to take part in the Olympic Games. Previously, mountain biking events have been held in forested Areas, which means Hadleigh farm – with its open hillside – is set to be a challenging course for the sportsmen and women taking part.
Construction of the course began back in July 2010 and with the scheduled work having recently gained completion, the GB Cycling team had the chance to try it out. On 23rd March 2011; Lily Mathews, David Fletcher, Liam Killeen and Kenta Gallagher took to the course. The riders were also joined by Sebastian Coe (Chair of LOCOG), Stephen Castle (Essex Cabinet Member for 2012 Games) and Major John Warner (Hadleigh Co-ordinator for the Salvation Army).
