Explore the Local Talent at Hadleigh Farm

Hadleigh Farmer’s Market is held on Hadleigh Home Farm on the second Wednesday of each month. It began in March 2003, where it has since gained a good reputation with both traders and customers. It’s also a certified Farmers’ Market recognised by FARMA the governing body for farmers markets across the UK. This means that the market has local farmers, growers and food businesses selling their very own produce straight to the customer.

Hadleigh Market has a number of regular stallholders, within which are a selection of stalls, selling a vast range of produce, including; home-made cakes, wooden hand-made crafts, chutneys, meats, home-made cards and more. The Salvation Army Training Centre’s horticulture department also have a stall that sells their own plant produce grown themselves. This stall is manned by the department itself which helps the trainees develop their interpersonal skills.

Having visited the Farmer’s Market on July 13th, I had the opportunity to visit a number of stalls to see the produce available and to have a chat with the vendors;

  • Carole and Cynthia, of C & C Cards, attend the market each month. They explained to me “We would like to see the market as busy as it once was, to encourage more people to come to Hadleigh’s Farmer’s Market, as many local people don’t know where or when it takes place”. They themselves make fascinating bespoke cards for every occasion as well as hand-made gifts for Christenings, Weddings and Birthdays. They try to add a few new items frequently to broaden their range of bespoke goods. Based in Leigh on Sea, they have been attending Hadleigh market for four years. To place orders ring 01702 831107 or 01702 528998.
  • The Chillichutneyman, winner of National Chilli Award, 2009 in Brighton, is another regular at Hadleigh Market selling a wonderful selection of delicious home-made chutneys from local, fresh produce. Since January 2007 the Chillichutneyman has been producing a range of home-made chilli chutneys, sauces and jams. He grows his own chillies, creating chutney recipes to extract their full potential. His chutneys include; subtle and sweet chutneys such as Mango Chutney and Beetroot chutney to Nitronaga chilli sauce varying from hot to mind-blowingly hot. Yummy Bakery can even design cupcakes with you to produce your very own luxury, bespoke wedding cakes. All yummy cakes are home made with the finest ingredients that they can find.
