Hadleigh Castle overlooks the Thames estuary and was built after 1215 by Hubert de Burgh. It is a romantic site full of charisma, thus a visit is certainly recommended! John Constable painted the Castle in 1829. If you have seen his marvellous art work, I’m sure you’ll agree that the image draws you in with it’s sense of mystery and darkness, but nothing beats visiting the castle in person! Many people go to Hadleigh Castle to take photographs, to sketch it, or even to eat around it. Having a picnic whilst admiring the beautiful view is definitely worth doing.

I often wander over to Hadleigh castle on my lunch, the breathtaking views combined with the beautiful calm atmosphere make it a lovely tranquil place to find your inner self and relax before heading back to the office.
I have shared many summers with the beautiful surroundings of Hadleigh Castle, from kite flying to reading books and whether you’re 5 or 55, Hadleigh castle is fun for all the family

On a clear day the view from the castle is lovely, across the Thames and right over to Southend. It is within a Country Park so excellent for walkers, runners and cyclists. We take the family down to fly kites and have picnics in the summer months.
