Be Part of Hadleigh’s Art and Architecture Weekend

The weekend of 8th October will see a trio of thrilling events taking place within Hadleigh, which as a 2012 Olympic Games venue, is fantastic to see! The first being the Hadleigh Art Trail, situated in 23 venues around the Hadleigh Town Centre.

The Hadleigh Art Trail - initiated by Essex legacy – is a new event for 2011 and will take place within shops, businesses and public spaces from October 8th  till October 15th. As part of the Essex Summer of Art, The Hadleigh Art Trail allows the opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work around Hadleigh Town Centre.

The newly restored Hadleigh Old Fire Station is Venue 7 of the Hadleigh Art Trail, where the public can not only view the recent renovation but also the revelation of Hadleigh’s local art work during the October 8th-9th Open Studios weekend.

The HOFS Open Studios weekend will allow you the opportunity to make your way around the open studios, glancing at the creative art work provided by fifteen different artists and several community groups. Months of work have taken place behind the scenes to create a pristine artists’ studio space, so be prepared to be impressed!

Studio 20 of HOFS is occupied by local artists; Sue Willis, Alison Ansary, Donna Jeffrey, Stan Edwards and Lorna Stennett, of whom have all recently begun their 3rd and final year of their Fine Arts Degree at South Essex College of Further and Higher Education. The artists hope that events such as the HOFS Open Studios weekend and Hadleigh Art Trail will increase people’s awareness of the fantastic factors Hadleigh has to offer.

In addition to The Hadleigh Art Trail and The HOFS Open Studios, there is another equally exciting event taking place… Dig and Sow! Stimulated by the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, this exhilarating experience allows Hadleigh residents the chance to unearth treasures within their very own garden. This excavation project is taking place within sites surrounding Hadleigh. So, why not volunteer your services and be part of a unique and worthwhile event? To take part in the Dig and Sow event, you can either dig in your own garden, join with neighbours and friends or volunteer to dig somewhere else, such as allotments and shared gardens.
